As electronics underpins digital and industrial transformation worldwide, circularity has become a strategic imperative rather than merely an end-of-life e-waste management challenge.
Further, as demand for digital technologies and electronic devices continues to grow, lifecycle approaches — from design and repair to refurbishment and material recovery — are essential for resource security, value retention and resilient supply chains. The session also builds on highlighting the importance of embedding circularity at the product design stage, where up to 80% of environmental impact may be determined.
The proposed session will explore leading circularity approaches in the electronics industry, from design choices and the use of bio-based and recycled materials to product-life extension, take-back and closed-loop systems. It will also present policy recommendations to help scale circularity efforts.
Bringing together industry leaders and other value chain stakeholders, the session will identify practical pathways and business approaches to transition from end-of-life e-waste management to lifecycle-based circularity in electronics. It will examine role of policy instruments in driving circular business action and equally important need for enabling diverse range of stakeholders – to support harmonized metrics, traceability, collaboration and scalable implementation.
